| Ol' Blue, USA
is happy to announce that in mid December 1998 a new Internet version of
the "Big Wheels, Little Kids"© safety
program will be fully online at www.olblueusa.org.
Visitors to the
site will not only be able to access important tips for kids about safety
around large vehicles, both in text and photos, but will be able to see
Ol' Blue, USA making actual visits to school facilities.
Back in April 1998, Ol' Blue, USA visited Helke Elementary, Vandalia, Ohio,
where the Principal, Mary Ann Wietzel, hosted a large gathering of students,
public officials, police and fire personnel and interested members of the
public, to a complete presentation of the "Big Wheels, Little Kids" program.
Photos were taken at this event specifically with the idea of a website
program in mind.
Then in September a similar program given at Ranchitio Avenue Elementary,
Panorama City, CA, hosted by Principal Sharon Kelly Lee and attended by
both students, parents and members of the California Highway Patrol was
again documented on film.
Both of the colorful and informational presentations are now ready for
public viewing. In addition website visitors can access the Safety Tips
section with more photos featuring different perspectives of the same scene
involving a big rig. The single moment is captured from the cab, from a
pedestrian on the street, from a nearby motorist and as seen by a child
on a bicycle. Every day there are millions of potential points of contact
between all members of the public and large vehicles, from freeways to
schoolyards. Developing Big Rig awareness in our young people and the potential
dangers of the these encounters is the purpose of the "Big Wheels, Little
Kids" program.
But Ol' Blue, USA can't visit every elementary school
in America personally. Now principals and teachers can use their computer
enhanced facilities to bring this important program and its safety message
to kids of all ages at their convenience.
Ol' Blue, USA hopes that every elementary school principal
will take a moment to visit the Ol' Blue, USA site and learn how this program
can be of benefit to their individual schools. Questions about the program
can be presented through the interactive e-mail feature designed to further
tailor the program to each educator's needs.
And even if you are not a educator, or a student, everyone
with a interest or stake in truck safety is urged to take a peek at this
exciting addition to the Ol' Blue, USA website.
Making all of this possible is Ol' Blue, USA Sponsors,
Wilshire Insurance, Michelin Tire, Alcoa Wheel, Webb Wheel Products, Mid-America
and International Trucking Shows. Many thanks to the California Highway
Patrol, Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement and Nevada Highway Patrol for their
support and contribution.
If you know of a company genuinely interested in large
vehicle traffic safety and the support of Ol' Blue, USA (United Safety
Alliance, Inc., a Non-Profit 501 (c) (3) Organization), talk to them and
have them contact Ol' Blue, USA at P.O. Box 2401, Van Nuys, CA 91404-2401,
Fax (775) 514-1930 or E-Mail us at rj@olblueusa.org.
It takes funding to keep the safety wheels in motion!
