Pete is currently in the process of establishing a CMV Consulting Company. He endeavors to assist motor carriers and drivers to meet or exceed safety requirements. Pete retired from the CHP in June 2009, with 14 years of commercial field experience and approximately 12 years and 10 months of commercial HQ experience.
Sergeant Pete Camm’s (Ret.) career in the California Highway Patrol (CHP) began when he graduated from the CHP Academy in January 1981. He was assigned to Commercial Vehicle Section (CVS) in 1996 and worked in CVS' Credentialing Unit. He promoted to sergeant in April 1999. Among other things, this unit oversees driver licensing, vehicle registration, interstate and intrastate registration and operating authority, NAFTA - as it pertains to transportation, and port security.
Sgt. Camm's initial assignment as a CHP officer was El Centro area. After completing his CHP Commercial Training in March 1982, he was transferred to the Sidewinder Platform Scale in June 1982. He also worked Mobile Road Enforcement.
Sgt. Camm served as a member of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's (CVSA) Driver-Traffic Enforcement and North American Inspectors Championship Committees and the Northern California Rail Road Safety Committee. He also served as liaison with CA DMV, Caltrans, BOE (IFTA), FMCSA and FHWA. He assisted the International Association of Chiefs of Police and FMCSA to develop a NAFTA training course for U.S. law enforcement personnel.
